Software Become a hub on the PMR446 World eQSO network and help the system to expand.........

You require:-

The PMR446 edition of eQSO Server (available on our downloads page).

A broadband "always-on" connection to the Internet. Standard flavour ADSL (256kb/sec upstream bandwidth) will cope with about 18 users on the server. (A T1 connection is capable of taking at least 60 users. T3, who knows but that's one fat pipe!).

Either a fixed IP address or a means to route a domain name to a dynamic IP address (we've had good experience with www.no-ip.com, and it's free).

A good firewall to prevent unauthorised access to your server PC.

What to do

Download the no-ip.com update client software and install it and launch it before starting your server.

You should also download the admin software which allows you to control your server remotely and also mute, ban or kick users that are causing a nuisance.

We recommened that you keep the default settings in the server application, with the exception of the password (which you should change to something unique that only you know) and, of course, the IP address or domain of your server.

Put your static IP address into the IP address/URL box (or your no-ip.com domain if you do not have a static IP), set the maximum number of users you wish your server to host (a zero here means no limit) and click start.

Depending on your setup you may then need to open the chosen port (eg 10024) in your firewall (to allow the user traffic into the server) and possibly port-forward that port to the machine running eQSO server on your network if you are using a router.

You should then see your server pop up in the eQSO Worldwide Servers page on this site and on other European PMR446 websites (they update every five minutes), or by clicking the "Who's on the System" button in the PMR446 build of the client/gateway client application.

If you wish to run a server for a specific country, drop us a mail and we can set you up with a sub-domain to run from.

Any questions, please post in Internet Gateway/Repeaters forum - we find it really hard to quickly answer email questions!

When Tj and I first started this whole thing back in March, we always envisaged a gateway in every major city in Europe. That may or may not happen, but to give it a chance, we really need some server ops across Europe.

Thanks,

Dean & Tj
